Obituary of Dennis Clyde McCartney
April 27, 1937 - December 24, 2021

Dennis Clyde McCartney, 84, Topeka, passed away Friday, December 24, 2021.

He was born April 27, 1937, in Smith County, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Evelyn (Arbuckle) McCartney. His siblings included Loral, Kenneth, and Cheri. He attended Mount Hope School and graduated from East High School in Wichita. He graduated from Wichita State University and later the University of Kansas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dennis later enlisted and proudly served in the Kansas Air National Guard.

Dennis was married to Barbara Jean Bartsch on April 27, 1968, in Topeka, Kansas. To this couple, one child was born, Maria McCartney Hoffman.

Dennis was a mechanical engineer for the State Department of Economic Development. Later he became a realtor for Coldwell Banker as well as working for Alpha Roofing.

Dennis was active in the Gideons, an international Bible Distribution Ministry. He told about being with his own father in the hospital before he passed away. There he picked up a Gideon Bible and was greatly comforted by the words of Scripture.  There was no doubt about God calling him to serve with the Gideons, and that call from God stayed with Dennis throughout his life.

In addition to his ministry with the Gideons, Dennis was a Full Gospel Businessman. He also served on the Topeka Board of Realtors. Dennis served on multiple mission trips all over the world and was a counselor and later grandpa at Royal Family Kid's Camp.

Dennis definitely put Jesus first in his life. He loved his wife and his family dearly.  He also knew how to love his friends and even those strangers who entered into his sphere of influence.  God’s love definitely flowed through this man.

He referred to himself as a country boy who worked hard and enjoyed hunting and the out-of-doors and had been blessed by the Lord.  He never tired of passing along the blessings that God placed in his life.  His love of God was the passion that undergirded everything Dennis did in life. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Ron) Doyle and Maria (Aaron) Hoffman; siblings, Loral (Anita) McCartney, Kenneth (Rose Marie) McCartney, and Cheri (Jerry) Dey; 11 grandchildren, Austin (Kayla), Addison, Zuzu, Adam, Alexander, Andrew, Zinovi, Ashton, Pazio, Zivia, and Zavali; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents. His wife, Barbara, outlived him by a few days, but passed away the early morning of her husband's funeral, January 4, 2021.

A visitation was held from 6-8pm Monday, January 3, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held 1:00pm Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton, KS.
