Letters
written by John Bartsch Sr. Many of these are letters he wrote to loved
ones while he was in the US Army during World War II. Occasionally
there is a response from a relative inserted in sequence and properly
noted in the Addressee column.
Scenario 2: This is the scenario developed by Johann Becker of Germany. He writes in an email concerning Supplement V,
the following email, the larger portion of which I have excerpted. I
have also adjusted his English a bit. German is his primary language,
and though he converses easily enough in English, his English needed
just a bit of refinement.
"The
footnotes are very interesting for me, especially footnote 2. That
confirms that I was right. If Johannes [Bartsch,] Sr. really had
siblings named Heinrich, Jacob etc. their father was Absolon (m). In
the birth records I found Maria, Cornelius, Jacob, Heinrich and Johann
as the children of Absolon Bartsch and Maria Penner. This information I
found on myheritage.com."
I've been researching for one year. I have read all original birth-books I have found. First I thought that Johann Bartsch (the delegate) was the father of Johannes Bartsch, Sr., too. But I haven't found anything to confirm this. With Johann Bartsch (the delegate) we have the following problems: 1. He was born in 1757. If so, he was almost 60 years old when he became father of Johannes Bartsch, Sr. - and when the siblings of Johann sen. where born he was no longer alive because he died in 1821. 2. After they obtained the land in Chortitza, he [Johann Bartsch] lived in Rosenthal, a village in the colony in Russia, where he also died. This means, that he didn't go back to Prussia. Herman, his mother Helena Isaac and Franz moved to the Trakt, the colony where Johannes jun. follow his mother to, in the year 1871 from East Prussia. That means, that until they moved to Russia they lived in Prussia and not in Chortiza. The birth records of the Bartsch sons confirms this. I think Johann Bartsch, the delegate, was a relative of our Bartsch family. Perhaps he was an uncle of Absolon, Jr., the father of Johannes Bartsch, Sr., and the brother of Absolon Bartsch, Sr. But I have found no proof for this theory. Kind regards, Johann Becker Return to Absalon (possibly Absalom) Bartsch. Johannes Bartsch, Sr., 1812-1857. Footnote 2 of Supplement V reads, "Brothers of Johannes [Sr.] were Heinrich, Jacob, and Absalom. [Back to Johannes Bartsch, Sr. Tree] Note:
The above information on Johannes Bartsch, Sr. I received from my
uncle, Paul W. Bartsch, Jr. He was relying upon information from his
own father, Paul W. Bartsch, Jr. The information from Paul W. Bartsch,
Sr. and Jr. is at odds with the information of Johann Becker, developed
above in Scenario 2. To see the version according to Paul Bartsch Sr.
and Jr. go to Scenario 1.
