Mary Sutton

February 14, 1954 - December 2, 2024

Mary (Meza) Sutton, beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on December 02, 2024, at the age of seventy years.

She was born on February 14, 1954, to Ruth (Hernandez) Meza and Joe Meza in Fort Morgan, Colorado. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska at the young age of 16 and made a life for herself there. She worked mostly as a bartender until she retired from that to travel with her husband Jim, who was an over-the-road truck driver.

Mary was a very religious person. She had a number of religious pictures and figurines in her home.

Mary served as a bartender for many years.  One of those places was Dee's Place. She also worked at Andy's Ark and Wilson's Frontier. These places of business no longer exist.

Mary had a concern for women going through difficult times. She organized a number of cancer benefits and benefits for battered women at Kozee's Bar and Grill in Omaha.

Mary enjoyed being around water. Mother's Days were often spent at Standing Bear Lake in West Omaha.

Mary, lovingly known as Mama Mary, would do anything for her family and friends. Her infectious laugh and beautiful smile would light up any place she entered. She loved hosting cookouts and holiday gatherings and having everyone over. She enjoyed dancing, especially with others. She lived a life full of cherished times spent with all those she loved. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary was preceded in passing by her parents Ruth and Joe Meza, and her siblings, Gabina, Johnny, Victor and Ricki.  She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Jim Sutton, her beloved children, Darryl Lee Moeller, Mary Ruth Garcia, Steven Allen Sutton and Crystal Ellen Perrigo, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her siblings Joe, Ruthie, Virginia, Tommy, Isabel and Roy.

Her family wishes to acknowledge with much appreciation the many expressions of love and kindness shown during this very difficult time of bereavement. They ask that Mary be remembered for her loving nature and the happiness she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Crosspoint Bible Church, 7820 Fort Street, Omaha, NE 68134 at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Jim Bartsch officiated at the service. There was a visitation with the family beginning at 9:30 AM.

The audience was invited to join the family for a reception following the service at KoZee Lounge, 5813 N. 60th St., Omaha, NE at 11:30 AM.
